Alicante wins Sires of the World 2016
An impressive jump-off by Belgium's Jérôme Guéry and Alicante secured the victory in the prestigious 'FEI Sires of the World' in Lanaken on Friday. Guéry was on fire, also taking the third place aboard his relatively new mount Garfield de Tiji des Templiers. Switzerland's Arthur Da Silva and Inonstop van 't Voorhof settled for the silver medal in this championship for approved stallions.
Ten of some of world's best stallions qualified for the jump-off after a delicate, technical 1.50m track with three combinations and some tricky verticals. “For Alicante it was actually not such a big course, since he has jumped quite some Global Champions Tours by now.” Jérôme Guéry stated afterwards.
Riding the successful stallion Alicante (Casall x Indoctro), Guéry did everything he could to take the victory. After a spectacular round, Guéry and Alicante took home the win in 37.57 seconds.
For me and for Alicante’s owner, this is a very important victory. Alicante is not only a sport horse, but also a breeding stallion. Many breeders have seen him jump on television, but now to see him live and winning like this is very good advertisement for him as a stallion,” Guéry stated after his victory. The Belgian rider also covered his own mares with Alicante. “I think he has everything you look for in a sport horse. He has a lot of power, he is very careful, he has a good mouth and is easy to ride. And he has got the looks, he is beautiful!”
